Student Organizations
HTS provides many opportunities for students to participate
in activities that promote academic, leadership, teamwork,
and spiritual growth.
The following lists the student organizations and activities
currently available to HTS students.

| Pennsylvania
Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) |
Coordinators: Mrs. Jablonski, Mrs. Smith, Miss Codori
The top 15 7th and 8th grade science fair projects will
be selected to compete in the PJAS science competition.
The Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) is
a statewide organization of Junior and Senior high school
students and teachers designed to promote interest in
science through the development of research projects
or investigations. Holy Trinity's Science Fair will
be held October 19-20, when the top 15 will be selected.
The regional competition will be held at Keystone Oaks
High School on February 7, 2010. The winner may go on
to compete at the state level May 16-18, 2010 at Penn
State University.

| Fine
Arts Department |
Directed by Mr.Richard Moser, Mrs. Catanzarite
4th through 8th graders, under the direction of Mr.
Richard Moser, have the ability to reach for their dreams
of performing on stage each spring with a musical production.
This year the Fine Arts Department will present Disney's
High School Musical, Jr. May 14, 15 & 16, 2010.
Past musicals by the Fine Arts Department include; Scrooge,
Pirates of Penzance, The Music Man, Guys and Dolls,
and Godspell, Jr.

| Battle
of the Books |
Mrs. Joan Tomei & Mrs. Peggy Thomas
Open to students in grades 4-6, the Battle of the Books
Teams read books and come together to test their knowledge
of the books they have read against teams from other
schools. The "battle" consists of multiple
rounds of questions, with a moderator and panel of judges.

| Forensics |
Coach Mrs. D'Itri & Ms. Codori
The Holy Trinity Forensics Team consists of students
in grades 6-8 who compete in five categories, including
Poetry, Prose, Declamation, Impromptu, and Drama. The
club promotes the study of public discussion and debate,
fostering public speaking skills. To prepare for the
competitions, the students study twice a week after
school.

Fun |
Coordinators Mrs. Leininger and Mrs. Pino
Number Fun is an after-school activity for Kindergarten
through 3rd grade students. A group of volunteer parents
support Mrs. Leininger and Mrs. Pino to run a variety
of math-related activities that help the children to
review math in a fun way. Activities include flashcard
relays, working with money, number and shape recognition,
addition, subtraction, multiplication, and logical reasoning
games. They break off into smaller groups and use a
variety of centers, computer lab software, and even
a school-wide treasure hunt to help students learn and
retain their math lessons. 6th through 8th grade helpers
are also available to assist the younger children in
the activities.

Achievement |
Parent Contact Mrs.Reilly
Junior Achievement is a worldwide organization that
teaches a variety of work readiness, entrepreneurship,
and financial literacy skills in schools. Lead by a
team of parent volunteers, JA's business skills are
offered to all students at Holy Trinity, including Kindergarten
through 8th grades.

Mrs. LaGrosse & Mrs. Scarlatelli
Open to students in grades 4-6, the competitive science
events challenge the students in their knowledge of
science, facts, concepts, processes, skills and applications.

| Band |
Teacher Mr. Adam Mamula
Any student who is interested in being part of the Holy
Trinity Band is welcome to join. Beginner Band is for
first year players, and Advanced Band is for students
who have been playing more than one year. Each band
meets once a week and students also receive group lessons
once a week, both during school time. The bands have
two concerts during the school year: a Christmas Concert
in December, and a Spring Concert in May, which are
free and open to the public.

| Violin |
Teacher Mr. John Ott
Students may start violin at any grade level and continue
their lessons through eighth grade and beyond at Holy
Trinity. The violin classes - which are taught in a
style that is known as the Suzuki Method - meet during
school two days a week on a rotating basis so that the
students do not miss the same class more than once a
month. The group classes cost $35 a month plus the violin
rental and some supplies. Partner and private lessons
are also available during the school day or after school
on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. If you would like more

| Spelling
Bee |
Mrs. Celeste D'Itri
The Holy Trinity Spelling Bee is being held in February
to determine HTS' representative for the Annual Western
Pennsylvania Spelling Bee, Sponsored by the Pittsburgh
Post Gazette. The Western PA bee will be held on the
campus of Children's Hospital sometime in March. This
winner will try for the spot to represent PA in the
National Scripps Howard Bee in Washington, DC.

5th through 8th graders participate in a variety of academic
challenges. The group practices once a week during lunchtime.
Twice a year the group competes online with other schools
in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl.
Tryouts begin November 5th & 6th at lunchtime recess
in Mr. Betten's room - please bring a pencil!

| Geography
Bee |
Coach
Mr. Betten
5th through 8th graders compete in classroom geography
bees. The finalist from Holy Trinity must pass an additional
geography test and will be sent on to represent Holy Trinity
in state, and possibly national Geography Bee competitions
sponsored by the National Geographic magazine.
Competitions begin the week of January 3rd, 2010. Finals
will be held January 8th at 2:00pm in the cafeteria.

Coordinator
Mr. Betten
5th through 8th graders participate in Student Council
as homeroom representatives, Public Relations Representative,
Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Vice President, and President.
Student Council offers a great introduction to student
government, promoting leadership skills, civic and community
responsibility.
One boy and one girl are elected as homeroom representatives
from every classroom in grades 5-8. Homeroom representatives
will be voted in by their classmates before November
6th. Candidates for Student Council Offices will give
speeches on Friday, November 6th at 2:00pm in the cafeteria.

Kindergarten through 8th grade are all invited to participate
in this activity that is held on Sundays from 1:30 -
3:00 p.m. on Sundays at the Crafton Ingram Bowling Lanes
in the Crafton-Ingram Shopping Center. For more information

Scouts |
Cub Scouts meet on Wednesday evenings in the HTS cafeteria
and is offered through Holy Trinity Church.
